Performer Alecia Robinson Rocks House with ‘Climb Every Mountain’!

The Sound of Music, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical that has won over legions of fans throughout the years is at the Fabulous Fox in Atlanta, Tuesday through Sunday, August 24 -29th.  Set in Austria in the late 1930’s, The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, a high spirited nun novitiate whose enthusiasm and love for life is both admired and sometimes resented by fellow nuns.  This classical musical version at the Fabulous Fox will include Alecia Robinson, an African-American national theater veteran.

Robinson plays the role of Sister Margaretta, one of the nuns who is a supporter of the main character Maria. Also the understudy for Mother Abbess, Robinson shows outstanding vocal ranges singing ‘Climb Every Mountain,’ a performance that has proven to be a showstopper.   In the storyline of this production, Mother Abbess receives a request from Captain Von Trapp, a widowed naval officer to find a Governess for his seven children. Maris does an exemplary job with the children and gains the approval of the Mother Abbess and the other nuns.

Robinson who is a graduate of Atlanta’s North Side School for the Performing Arts says that she was inspired to pursue a career on stage by the school’s late legendary drama coach Billy Densmore. She has found herself doing a lot of traveling as result of her stage career. One of her most recent roles in Ragtime kept her on the road for two years.

Robinson versatility as an onstage actress was demonstrated when she played several characters and also switched genders in Disney’s Mulan, a story of a girl who breaks tradition.  One of the characters she played was Grandmother FA, a wise-cracking old lady who hurdled identifiable quips.

Other musicals and productions to Robinson’s credit include Phantom, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie, Camelot, Jelly’s Last Jam, False Creeds, Doubt, She Loves Me, Godspell and The Music Man. These productions have taken her all around the country where she has appeared on stages in many different venues.

“We are delighted to present a new production of The Sound of Music, states Christopher B. Manos, Producer of Theater of the Stars. “Because of its beautiful score, heartwarming story, and hopeful message, we know it will be one of your favorite things.”

Other performers in The Sound of Music include Mandy Bruno, an Emmy nominated actress who plays Maria, Burke Moses, a broad way star who plays Captain Von Trapp and Jeanne Lehman as Mother Abyss, who has played in a National Tour alongside Richard Chamberlain.
